What is the difference between a river and a lake?
A river is a large flowing body of water that moves through a natural channel (i.e. narrow, much longer than wide). A lake is a large standing body of water. However a lake can also be a widened river with a very low rate of flow. Rivers, or smaller streams, usually fill and/or drain lakes.
